The Almased Synergy Diet

Determining the amount of Almased to take:

One serving (meal) of Almased equals 6 to 10 tablespoons, depending on your height. Please refer to the Calculating Your Almased Meal chart below to determine how much Almased you should consume for your height and the phase of the Diet you are currently on.

Cleansing Phase (Days 1 and 2):

This is a very important phase of the diet and will affect the outcome tremendously. To begin the detoxification process with Almased, it is necessary to cleanse your digestive tract. Take your preferred laxative or laxative tea the night before you begin the Diet.

In the morning take your first Almased drink to start the diet. Mix Almased with a cool liquid by putting the Almased into the glass first and then adding the liquid. Consume the total number of tablespoons each day shown on the chart. You may break those total tablespoons up into 3 or more drinks - just be sure to consume all your tablespoons. Do not consume any solid food.

Prepare a fresh vegetable broth and consume it between your Almased diet meals. The vegetable broth provides you with important vitamins and antioxidants to fight free radicals you will be producing during this phase. It will also help to curb your appetite in between meals and will add to your daily amount of liquid. You can also drink vegetable juice, such as V8® 100% Vegetable Juice.

To avoid dehydration and help with the detoxification process, you must supply your body with at least 8-10 cups or 64-80 ounces of calorie-free fluids (preferably water) daily. Stay away from coffee, teas with caffeine, alcohol (including beer and wine), sodas, and fruit/vegetable juices because of added calories and sugars. Decaffeinated green tea is an excellent antioxidant. During the diet your bowels should be emptied at least every 3 days.

If you feel good during the starting phase, you can extend this phase for up to a week. Read about the Turbo Protein Diet, a diet which uses this phase for up to two weeks. [Caution from Almased company: In his "Turbo Protein Diet Book" Dr. Markert recommends to replace all meals for two weeks with Almased. Due to the excessive weight loss in these 2 weeks, Almased recommends to engage in Dr. Markert's program only under the supervision of your health care practitioner. ]

Reduction Phase (Day 3 and beyond):

From the third day on, the diet is in the actual reduction phase, and your body is working on losing fat. You will have 2 Almased meals a day and one well-balanced meal of solid food. Continue with this phase until you reach your target weight.

Ideally, you would take this meal at lunchtime. The meal should consist of about 500 calories. You can have a lean cut of meat, fish or tofu with raw, steamed or cooked vegetables and whole grains or legumes. Example: 2-3 oz (size of your palm) of skinless chicken, 1-2 cups of green leafy vegetables or a salad with olive oil and vinegar dressing and ½ cup of brown rice. You should not consume pasta, refined sugars, white rice, white breads, candy, cakes, or any overly processed, fried or prepared foods. These contain excessive artificial ingredients and preservatives your body does not need. If the lunchtime meal plan does not coincide with your regular routine you can eat your solid food meal in the evening or morning.

Keep in mind that beneficial oils such as olive oil (especially extra virgin or virgin olive oil) have essential nutrients such as omega-3-fatty acids and therefore should be consumed on a daily basis. Even though olive oil has nutritional benefits, it is considered a fat and should be consumed in moderation.

Again, it is important to drink a minimum of 8-10 cups or 64-80 ounces of calorie-free fluids throughout the day. Make sure you get enough fiber to empty your bowels at least every 2-3 days. Eat fiber-rich food such as whole grain products and vegetables or take additional dietary fiber supplements, e.g. oat bran, flaxseed or psyllium husk.

If you experience some muscle pain or headache after a few days, it will be most likely caused by "free radicals" dissolved by the diet, also known as detoxification. You can speed the process by using anti-oxidant supplements and increasing your water, broth, and decaf green tea intake.

Holding Phase (4 to 6 weeks duration):

Once you have reached your target weight and your healthy body fat content, you begin a holding phase. During this time the amount of Almased diet meals will be reduced gradually. On the first and second week after the reduction phase, reduce your Almased drinks to only one Almased drink a day. The third and fourth week, take only one every other day. It is important to slowly adjust your body back to a normal calorie intake and burning rate.

Remember that the number of regular meals as well as the intake of calories increases. You have entered into a critical phase, and you should not overeat or you can quickly gain weight back.

Remain in this holding phase for approximately 4-6 weeks to guarantee the emptied fat cells stay empty. With perseverance and sensible food intake you can manage your new-found target weight. Even in this phase, it is important to drink a minimum of 8-10 cups of calorie-free liquids (bottled water, tea, etc.) per day. A recommended food schedule is to have Almased for dinner and consume a regular breakfast and lunch.

Back to Regular Eating Phase:

Now that you have maintained your weight loss for some time, it is important to continue with healthy eating habits to keep the weight off for good. You can eat the foods you like but don’t overeat. Consider counting fat content and not worring so much about calories. You should not consume more than 60g of fat a day. Again, a well-balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, lean meats, and low fat dairy products will be your best bet. Try Almased, fruit, fresh vegetables and low fat milk products as between meal snack if you get hungry. In order to maintain your weight, renew your cells, or for purification purposes, you can replace 1 meal per day with 6 to 8 tablespoon of Almased in a no/low calorie liquid as needed.


Diet Program Suggestions

Exercise:

Exercise is vital to your dieting success!! Some kind of exercise program will additionally stimulate your metabolism. There are many simple physical movements that you can enjoy and can be easily done without much cost.

Almased suggests developing an exercise routine that fits into your daily routine. Determine a time of day in which you are most comfortable working out and set aside that time. If you do not already exercise, start off slow and increase at your own pace. It is not required that you do an extensive workout but even a short walk once a day can help your overall health and increase your weight loss.

Maintenance Tips:

It is up to you to maintain your weight loss by continuing to eat healthy low calorie/low fat meals and getting plenty of exercise. You can also aid this maintenance with continued use of Almased. In order to maintain your weight, renew your cells, or for purification purposes, you should try to incorporate Almased into your diet each day; you can do this as a single meal replacement (such as a breakfast shake) or have it as a snack between meals.

Children, stressed, and elderly people who do not want to lose weight can take 2 to 4 tablespoons, twice a day, in the evening and before bedtime. See Other Uses of Almased for further details.

Try to stay away from fried and fast foods . Only eat snacks if hunger demands it or if you have an elevated nutrition requirement (e.g. with diabetes, during exercise, pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc.). A healthy snack should consist of vegetables, fruits, or low-fat milk products.

Anti-Oxidants:

It is very important to consume enough antioxidants to flush the "free radicals" dissolved by the diet. This process is also known as detoxification. Green tea, vegetable broth, and vegetable juice contain antioxidants. For optimal results with this, or any other diet, detoxifying with antioxidants is the best thing to avoid detoxification symptoms such as headaches or muscle pain. Antioxidant supplements, in addition to the green tea and broth, may enhance this detoxification process. Try these detoxifying options:

Liquids:

While on the Almased Synergy Diet, best results will be obtained when using water with Almased. The amount of water used is determined by your preference, a thick shake needs little water while a thinner one uses more. Since it is the goal of the Almased Synergy Diet to detoxify your body as well as to facilitate weight loss, more water is preferable and you should try to stick with it for at least the first 3-4 days.

It is possible to use other liquids with Almased as long as you avoid sugar, carbohydrates and carbonation. Some dieters like to use Crystal Light® or DIET V-8® Splash with their Almased, but you have to consider some of the ingredients in these products. If you need to sweeten your Almased shake, we suggest natural sweeterners, such as Stevia. You may also mix Almased with your veggie broth, but make sure to cool the broth first. You should NEVER mix Almased in anything hot or very cold, as it destroys the enzymes in the product. If you wish, you can drink your daily coffee (about 1 to 2 cups) but we recommend you avoid caffeinated products. We don't recommend mixing Almased with coffee, not even when it is cold.

Consume in moderation only:

Coffee, alcohol, tobacco, fatty meats, sausage, eggs, bleached flours, industrial sugars and sweets of any kind. Obesity increases your risk of heart disease, stroke, and tumors.

Example: A person 5 6" would consume 8 tablespoons in each shake, 3 times a day, if they wanted to consume only 3 meals. If that person wanted to consume 6 meals instead, they would use 1/2 the amount of Almased for each shake (ie 4 tablespoons).
